Why Have Outhouses????

Back in pioneer times there were no such things as flush toilets. When it was time to “go” you’d just have to dig a little hole behind a tree and cover up the “evidence” with the dirt from the hole.  Outhouses were a Big Improvement!

Adding a “flushy” is more complicated than installing a toilet.  Whatever is flushed down has to go somewhere – which means digging up a lot of land for a septic tank or sewage lines.

Using an outhouse is no big deal once you are used to it.  The toilet paper is usually kept inside a coffee can to keep mice from “borrowing” it for their nests.  Put the lid down afterwards.  And always wash your hands!!!!!!!!
