VOLUNTEER WITH FRIENDS OF CROWELL HILAKA

volunteer waiver form

"Clean & Green"  RJRD initiative to clean, trim, and beautify Richfield Heritage Preserve.  Meets most Saturday from 9:00 a.m.to noon at the Pack Out Building next to the right hand parking lot at the end of the looooong entrance drive. For more information please contact volunteer-info@rjrd.org.

Invasive Plant Management / The Barberrians  We seek out and destroy destructive invasive plants, ripping them out by their nasty little roots. We focus on garlic mustard May-June. Mid-summer through fall we take out woody shrubs including barberry ( hence the name "Barberrians") per the plan written in conjunction with Jennifer Windus of the Ohio Invasive Plant Council  and the Ohio Natural Preserves Association. Barberry removal requires preparation and sign off on the instructions which are here. Contact Lynn at 440-667-3367.

Watchers: Supplement the RJRD security team by keeping a discreet watch on the less traveled areas of the property. Needed anytime you are available, but consider evenings: when evil-doers most likely to strike.  Non-confrontational; notify Richfield police (330-659-9500) to handle suspicious characters. Contact Lynn at 440-667-3367.

Trail Guides: Become a Master of the Mysteries when you guide eager visitors on hiking tours of this legendary land. Training required to work scheduled events.  Check out the "independent study" for time-tested tricks to impress your friends when squiring them about.

Kirby Day 2020: Kirby's Marble-ous Mill!  September 13  12-5 pm
Gund Hall with letterbox treasure hunt throughout the park. Jim Kirby was an expert marbles player. Could it be that his childhood games inspired his innovative design for the water wheel of his mill?  We may never know for sure, but we know he left a legacy of playfulness and wonder.  Celebrate by starting your own collection of marbles. Collect one marble from each letter box that you visit.  Return to Gund Hall to learn the game of Marbles from Michael Cohill of the American Toy Marble Museum. We need Greeters, "Marblettes", and more. Contact Lynn Richardson at 440-667-3367.

Cozy Up to Winter Wonders / Christmas Cookie Sale   First Saturday in December
We need bakers and sale workers

Memory Keepers: an invitation to camp alumni to share their stories of the old Crowell Hilaka Girl Scout Camp.  The National Registry of Historic Places wants to know how this camp influenced the lives of women.  YOUR story is important!  Click here for more details

Friendly Presence. Any time, anywhere. Keep an eye out for lost hikers, offer a map if you have one / pick up litter

Host a garage sale to benefit FoCH at your location.  We'll provide auxiliary assistance, merchandise, and promotion.

FoCH ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Inventory coordinator.  We need someone whose job is to keep track of FoCH's display materials. They do not have to keep it at their house, just keep track of where it is.  Our display materials do a lot of traveling, they need a manger who can learn and understand their schedule.

Advisory Panel. Active FoCH volunteers may be invited to join the Advisory Panel to discuss issues related to Richfield Heritage Preserve and get the ball rolling on FoCH projects.

Board of Directors like other incorporated nonprofit organization, the board is responsible for the legal and financial integrity of Friends of Crowell Hilaka.  It is strongly recommended that prospective board members spend a year on the Advisory Panel to familiarize themselves with FoCH work style. One third of the board is elected annually by the membership.

Officers per our bylaws, candidates for office must be board members.
